El Chaltén - Excursions

El Chaltén offers a great variety of excursions, the best-known being the walks within the National Park.

There are also some guided and more difficult excursions, as navigation or walks on the area's glaciers.

Conventional Excursions

Lago del Desierto

Many companies take you through the 37 kilometres from El Chaltén to Lago del Desierto. Once there, you can walk for one tour until finding Huemul Glacier.

Estancia Madsen

You can visit this pioneer estancia, which has a museum with all the Madsen family's belongings, and the history of the place, and of this first inhabitant of the area.

Navigations

Nowadays, there are two different excursions to visit glaciers in this zone, both of them by ship, as navigation is the only way to reach that area:

Viedma Lake Navigation

From Bahía Tunel Port, through Viedma Lake, reaching the glacier's front side (the biggest glacier in the province).

Del Desierto Lake Navigation

One-hour-long navigations, along the lake until its northern bank.
