This town lies in the valley formed by the rivers Fitz Roy and De Las Vueltas. Behind El Chaltén you'll find Fitz Roy and Torre Mountains, worldwide considered as very difficult to climb. They are the entrance to the Campo de Hielo Continental [Continental Ice Platform].
In the village you'll find any service you may need: accommodation, gastronomy, travel agencies, specialized guides, equipment renting, a petrol station, garage and sanitary department.
The main beauties of the area are its natural landscapes, the short distance to the mountains, and also being able to know the mountain's climate, through short walks you can make during the day.
There are also navigations to Viedma Lake, where you can find the National Park's biggest glacier, and to Lago del Desierto.
The Southern Patagonian ice platform is the biggest one in South America, formed by over 300 glaciers, the biggest and best-known being Upsala, Viedma and Moreno.
